1. What is Student Venture?
Student Venture is the high school and junior high ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ.
Our vision is to help fulfill the Great Commission among young people, giving every
student the opportunity to respond to the message of Jesus Christ, to be discipled in
their Christian faith, and to be trained to reach others (Win, Build, Train, and Send).
2. What is VITAL LINC?
It is an acronym for Volunteers, Interns, Teachers, Affiliates, Lay Leaders In New
Campuses. VITAL LINC is the volunteer directed effort within Student Venture. The purpose
of VITAL LINC is to help train, equip, and resource people to be effective at beginning
and developing Student Venture ministries in their own communities. These ministries are
directed by the local VITAL LINC Affiliate and resourced through the national headquarters
in Orlando, FL. We communicate with our Affiliates by phone and through the mail as often
as is necessary to help them be effective in their ministry.
3. What does a Student Venture ministry look like?
The objectives of a Student Venture ministry are threefold: Win students to Christ, build
them in their Christian faith, and send them out to reach others for Christ after
receiving effective training to do so. A healthy Student Venture movement will contain the
following elements: 1) Adults and students involved in sowing activities (making contact
with new students); 2) Students with varying levels of spiritual maturity being discipled
in their faith (from new believers to spiritually mature students); 3) Scheduled events
designed to target new students and provide movement visibility in the community (gym
nights, athletic team meetings, lock-ins, Student Venture meetings, etc.); 4) Trained
volunteers and students sharing their faith with friends and acquaintances.
4. How do I become a VITAL LINC Affiliate?
A VITAL LINC Affiliate acts as Student Venture's representative in a community. Therefore,
he or she must be in agreement with our ministry distinctives and policies. In addition, a
prospective Affiliate should have five key qualities: 1) A strong walk with God; 2) A deep
love for high school students; 3) A willingness to take faith steps and be an initiator;
4) A teachable attitude and a willingness to be accountable to his or her VITAL LINC
coach; 5) 8-10 hours per week available for ministry activities. A phone interview is
conducted with the prospective Affiliate and then a decision is made regarding acceptance.
Occasionally, additional written information is requested by the interviewer before a
decision is made.
5. What commitment am I making if I become a VITAL LINC Affiliate?
Each VITAL LINC Affiliate is asked to sign a covenant in which they pledge to walk with
God and direct the ministry with integrity and godliness. You will also commit to being
accountable to your assigned coach. A "`probation period'' will exist during the
first three months, during which either the Affiliate or Student Venture may withdraw from
the agreement.
6. What would my responsibilities be as an Affiliate?
As a VITAL LINC Affiliate, you would be the director of the local Student Venture
movement. You would be responsible for the planning and direction of the ministry.
Prayerfully, God will raise up others in your local area who can help you disciple and
train students, but you will provide overall leadership to the ministry. As the Affiliate,
you will be the person with whom the VITAL LINC coach is in regular contact. You will then
be responsible for passing on ideas, information and teaching which you receive from your
coach to the students and volunteers with whom you work.
7. Does it cost anything to be an Affiliate?
No, it does not cost you anything. We are here to serve as many people as possible in
reaching their communitys schools for Christ, and would not want a financial
obligation to prevent anyone from being equipped in ministry. We are, however, a
non-profit organization, and our budget depends on donations from concerned individuals
and churches. We are grateful for anyone who wishes to partner with us through finances
and prayer as we provide this service to the body of Christ. If you would like information
on becoming a partner with us, click here.
8. What if I don't know much about high school ministry?
Not many people do! Our VITAL LINC coaches offer years of successful youth ministry
experience to help you be effective in ministry. If this is something you really want to
do, and if you have a heart for God, a love for kids, some time to give, a teachable
spirit, and a willingness to take steps of faith, you probably have what it takes to work
with students.
9. How do I get started as an Affiliate?
Once you have been accepted as a VITAL LINC Affiliate, our working relationship officially
begins. We will send you a Starter Handbook which will gives the basics of establishing a
successful outreach ministry. In addition, you will receive training materials called Leader's Helps, each of which provides instruction on a
specific ministry activity, such as how to develop a ministry plan, how to gather
students, how to begin and lead a discipleship group, how to explain Student Venture, etc.
We will discuss each of these activities in detail over the phone.
10. Are others doing the VITAL LINC ministry successfully?
Yes! Currently, over 90 successful VITAL LINC ministries are functioning across the
country. There is no typical VITAL LINC Affiliate. Since we have youth pastors, parents,
businessmen, housewives, Campus Crusade staff and even high school students serving as
Affiliates. Some of these individuals have extensive ministry experience, but most have
little or none. We will do whatever it takes to help you be effective in the ministry.
