STUDENT VENTURE MEETING
TOPICS AND THEMES

A Student Venture meeting is an excellent opportunity to draw a crowd by capitalizing on the felt needs of high school students. While it is true that students will come as they are invited by other students, they may not come again if the meeting has little relevance to them.

Therefore, it is extremely important to be aware of any holidays, school functions, and sudden school occurrences (suicide, traffic accidents, tornados, etc.) that need to be addressed. Be ready to flex on a regularly scheduled Student Venture meeting if another topic urgently needs to be discussed.

The following is a listing of some possible topics and themes for your meetings. Often, a meeting will flow according to a publicized main theme. Testimonies, skits, and the talk should follow this theme. However, everything at the meeting does not have to completely center around the theme. Wild and creative games and contests may or may not follow a theme line. Be creative and have a great time!

THEME IDEAS:

  • Relationships: Love, sex, dating, relationships, prom, homecoming, Mr./Mrs. Right. Possible skits and contests associated with these include: The Dating Game, the first date, homecoming float building contest, dress up or down prom night, etc.
  • Regeneration Gap: Just because your mom or dad or grandparents are Christians does not mean that you have a relationship with God.
  • Eternity: What is it? What does it mean to me?
  • Creation vs. Evolution: You could even call this a "Brain Bash" and invite the smartest students at school to debate the topic.
  • Compassion
  • Pain
  • The Unique You: Self-Image Talk
  • Party Animals/Keggar Commandos: Life at - and after - the party.
  • What did you say?: What our words really communicate.
  • The cost of discipleship
  • Breathtaking Bad Habits: Examples of some of the most gross and silliest things people do. (Even use examples from the Bible.) Does God give power to overcome these habits?
  • Will God Curve the Final?: This could be a good talk to give during finals week. What's the bottom line on getting into heaven?
  • Mid-Semester Blues
  • How to Raise Your Parents
  • Why Bad Things Happen to Good People
  • How to be Popular and Still Like Yourself: Cliques
  • Making Decisions/Being a Success/Being a Champion: These may be good graduation talks.
  • How to Make Better Grades and Have More Fun
  • Nerd Night
  • Leadership: Would be good to have a special Student Council night or school leadership night.
  • Dealing with Doubt: What is the truth?
  • Total Athlete
  • Uniqueness of Jesus: Liar, Lunatic or Lord?
  • Dealing with Discouragement
  • Learning to Cope
  • Holiday Meetings: Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter, and halloween Alternatives
  • International Thanksgiving Night: Invite international students to a Thanksgiving - type dinner meeting and explain the real significance of the holiday.
